The University of New Mexico football team is in the middle of preseason camp. With only a couple more weeks before the 2019 season begins, head coach Bob Davie and the Lobos have their work cut out for them.
Although camp began last Friday, the team didn’t experience wearing full pads until Tuesday. The weather was hot, but the Lobos get to relax a little on Wednesday, their first day off. New Mexico officially begins the 2019 season on August 31 by hosting Sam Houston State.
Preseason rankings
CBS Sports ranked the New Mexico Lobos 127 out of 130. When asked about how much attention he pays to the preseason rankings Davie said not much at all.
“I don’t want to be offending our fans out there. Trust me I really do care about this football team,” the coach said. “I really do care about what the rankings will be at the end of the season, but honestly I could give a damn about any of those preseason rankings.”

Director of operations Brian DeSpain, who is also Davie’s son-in-law, has left New Mexico to do the same job but now with the Arizona Wildcats.
Kameron Miller
Redshirt junior safety Kameron Miller came down toward the end of the camp on Tuesday. Once he got up, he limped a little and was touching the back of his leg as he was leaving the field. Davie went to check on him once all players were heading to the locker room and he had talked to the media. There is no official update on the injury or the seriousness of it yet.
Miller was originally recruited by the Lobos as a quarterback.
A few player updates: DB Brandon Burton missed today's practice because of heat exhaustion; WR Elijah Lilly was out with a hyperextended knee, not thought to be serious; QB Tevaka Tuioti remains away because of a family issue.

Tevaka Tuioi
The quarterback is still not at camp. Last week Davie said Tuioti could be absent for the first few days due to his grandfather’s health condition.
