Ninth inning performance snaps New Mexico's losing streak against Arizona

Box score.
When it comes to baseball, the game isn’t over until it’s really over. The Lobos showed resilience and pulled a 5-4 victory over Arizona on Wednesday after collecting three runs in the ninth inning. The Lobos hadn’t defeated the Wildcats since 2006, which had allowed a 14-game losing streak to build. New Mexico now gets to enjoy a 5-4 overall record before opening Mountain West play in Albuquerque this upcoming weekend.
The Lobos had a one-run lead after the third inning, but the Wildcats tied it during the fifth and took a lead during the sixth. The Lobos were down 2-4 before the ninth inning started. Senior Jared Mang, last week’s MW Player of the Week, was responsible for keeping the Lobos in the game. Once New Mexico was ahead, senior pitcher Malachi Emond took care of the bottom of the ninth to make sure the Lobos could return home with a win.
