The University of New Mexico baseball team wrapped up the season is in California winning two out of three games against the San Diego State Aztecs. These were the last three games for the Lobos as New Mexico did not qualify for the Mountain West Tournament, which goes from May 23-26 in Reno, Nevada.
Thursday: SDSU 8, New Mexico 0
The Aztecs counted with right-hander pitcher Justin Goosen-Brown, who did not allow a Lobo hit until the third inning. That was the same inning in which SDSU picked up the first two runs of the game. Goosen-Brown stayed on the mound for the entire game. The loss officially eliminated the Lobos from MW Tournament.
Friday: SDSU 0, New Mexico 2
Another shutout, but this time the Lobos were on the right side of the result. Junior right-handed pitcher Justin Slaten started on the mound and pitched into the seventh inning. Closer Malachi Emond got his 10th save of the season during this game.
Saturday: SDSU 4, New Mexico 7
The Aztecs scored three runs on the ninth inning but it was not enough to prevent the Lobos from winning the series 2-1. Junior Nathaniel Garley started on the mound and pitched a career-high 8.0 innings. The day ended with three seniors: Chad Smith, Blake Walden and Malachi Emond.
