MBB Update: Middle of summer

News are a little slow in the middle of summer. But while you count down the days until the fall season begins again, here is a bit of a recap on everything that has been happening with the University of  New Mexico men’s basketball team.
Legends Classic
The announced schedule has the New Mexico Lobos playing the Auburn Tigers during the championship round on Nov. 25. The full schedule for the Legends Classic can be found here. The Tigers will be an exciting opponent for New Mexico, as head coach Bruce Pearl led the team to the first Final Four in school history during the 2018-2019 season with a 30-10 record.
4o minutes
Assistant coach Jerome Robinson posted on Twitter about his niece Olivia going through 40 days of radiation treatment. He started a challenge and the Lobos did a video in honor of her.

  • Director of Recruiting for 247 Sports Evan Daniels tweeted that Eastern Kentucky graduate transfer Tay Weaver picked up offer from New Mexico
  • Class of 2020 6’6″ Javonte Johnson went on an official visit to New Mexico and received an offer from the Lobos
  • Class of 2020 4 star C Martice Mitchell received an offer from the Lobos

Staff Updates
Ralph Davis: The former video coordinator got promoted to director of operations. The upcoming season will be his second year with the Lobos.
Dan McHale: McHale was most recently with Eastern Kentucky University as head coach from 2015-2018.
Craig Snow: Snow is coming straight from New Mexico Highlands University, where he spent five years most recently worked as the director of athletics and basketball coach.

Vladimir Pinchuk
The sophomore forward/center announced he was entering the transfer portal after two years with the Lobos. There is still not an official update on where he is heading next.
Former Lobos

  • Dairese Gary, who was named First-team All-MWC in 2010 and 2011, hung out with head coach Paul Weir.
  • Tony Snell was traded by the Milwaukee Bucks to the Detroit Pistons
  • Alex Kirk will stay with Tokyo Alvarak for a third season. The team has won the last two Japanese B.League championships.
  • Joe Furstinger will sign with GTK Gliwice in Poland
  • Cameron Bairstow got married in Fiji
