New Mexico traveled to Surprise, Ariz. to open its season with the College Baseball Classic. The Lobos are 2-2 after their opening weekend.
Jared Mang got the Mountain West Player of the Week honor, while Nathaniel Garley was named Pitcher of the Week.

Friday: No. 8 Oregon State 6, New Mexico 5

The Lobos led for most of the game against the 2018 national champion Beavers. Oregon State was scoreless until the seventh inning, but three runs there and three during the bottom of the ninth cost the Lobos the game. Senior Jared Mang scored the first New Mexico home run of the season in the sixth inning.

New Mexico bounced back with the first win of the season behind a strong pitching start from junior pitcher Nathaniel Garley. Six Lobos had a hit, five of them more than one. The lone run for Minnesota came in the fourth inning. The Lobos finished the game strong with the ninth inning seeing four runs.
Sunday: New Mexico 6, Gonzaga 4

Gonzaga took a 4-2 lead at the top of the fourth but New Mexico tied it during the bottom of the inning. The Lobos added more runs during the fifth and seventh innings to get their second win of the season. Kenneth Waller, Chad Smith and Malachi Emond all saw pitching time.
