He can be. Now the question will be, can he consistently bring that level of effort, every game??? Hopefully, injury free.
Great news. Has potential to go into the books as an all time lobo great
always the question with any and all who are “expected” to be top performers in whatever field of endeavor. For example how did it work out for Ike. However, having two returners who already have proven to be “all-conference’ players is a hell of lot better than not.He can be. Fun player to watch. He's gonna score and defend, everyone knows that. The next step for him is making everyone around him better, especially with as much turnover as is coming. That will firmly mark his place in Lobo great history.
As everyone knows I'm ride or die for House, his #'s don't ly, he's by far the best player on the team 🤑
I think the challenge of making those around them better lies with both Mash and House. They can do really really good things, but can hurt their team quite a bit at times too.
A big piece of the puzzle. Hoping we fill in the front court with experience and players that provide team chemistry. Apparently there wasn’t as much chemistry this year as I and others had thought.
As I said all season and will be the case next year, House is the engine that drives this team!
imo, correct but would add that the same could be said of some/all of the all time great b-ball players like Magic, Bird, Jordan, Kareem, Curry, Wilt, etc. etc. Without these two, we would have been lucky to win more than 5 games. With them we beat a final4 team on their floor and we’re within one shot of sweeping them and within a few plays of being in the big dance ourselves. IMO, the +s these two bring far, far, far outweigh any -s. Just because we all watch them more closely and expect more from them shouldn’t over-emphasize some shortcomings that we wouldn’t pay extreme attention to in others - everybody (maybe especially me) has room for improvement.I think the challenge of making those around them better lies with both Mash and House. Pleasantly suprised that he will be back. It's a joy to watch him play for our Lobos. I hope to see that first in game dunk next year. Perhaps we will see more of a rotation with he, Mash, DD and Tru. Keep the minutes down to less than 30 for them average per game.
hey that's great news. I did express otherwise a couple weeks back but it brings back stability and experience.

Definitely experience. And hopefully stability...
I just love watching Mr. House on the court. I know the purpose of the game is victory, but damn, isn't he fun to watch? Maybe frustrating at times when he tries to do it by himself, but he can be worth the price of admission with his non-stop ball hawking, ankle-breaking dribbling, no-look passes, full throttle motion, and total enthusiasm while playing. Can't wait to see him lead the Lobos next season to the top of the MWC.

...and it's easy to focus on the minuses when a season ends in rough fashion like ours. These guys are huge for us. I don't question that for a second, but they can work against Team Success at times. That factor is an essential piece in team success next year. I think these guys are better than Elijah Brown, potentially way way better - but they do give me visions of EB trying to do it all on his own. And that hurt us more than it helped when he was a Lobo.
Not long ago, I assumed House was very unlikely to be back next season, but I'm glad he's returning. He's a dynamic player who can really make the team go. He doesn't always make wise decisions, of course, but he typically makes up for those and then some. I look for a better and more mature game from him next year, the simple result of experience. With portal additions coming, it will be interesting to see who some of the future recipients will be of his thread-the-needle and no-look passes.
i respect your takes but on this one I see it differently - i don't see much if any correlation to EB. Both of these guys are proving to be very loyal (a huge component for me) and both play very, very hard just about all of the time, even when they make mistakes. Also, while both put up a lot of shots and look to score 1st most of the time (especially Mash - as a shooting guard he should look to shoot 1st). However, unlike EB, I didn't see either one of them intentionally ignore open teammates who were in open and in position to score in order to jack up an ill advised shot.imo, correct but would add that the same could be said of some/all of the all time great b-ball players like Magic, Bird, Jordan, Kareem, Curry, Wilt, etc. etc. Without these two, we would have been lucky to win more than 5 games. I recognize that Mash especially needs to improve his D but unlike EB, he was trying. IMO, the best on D we can expect out of Mash is to learn how to play position D (a bit like Hugh did after the rule emphasis change that took away a lot of his "physical" defense he employed in his 1st 3 years) - due to Mash's size and strength deficiencies as a 2, I don't see him becoming a "lock-down" defender no matter how hard he works but he can learn to make it a bit less easy for his man by just being in the right position. House's D is a trade-off that I'm willing/happy to accept - he gambles so at times we pay for him being out of position but his steals, deflections and just harassment in general make the other guys very uncomfortable. IMO, unlike EB, these guys are not selfish but rather (sometimes in error -don't we all) do what they do from their perspective is in the team's best interest not selfishly "hero ball."
Anyway, that's my view of it.
Good post, makes me wish I'd used a better example than EB. Lol.
And though I'm focused on things that concern me, in the big picture it is very exciting to have very talented guys returning. The main thing I'm hoping for is growth from them in a way that helps involve and lift up their teammates. We will win many games again next year because of them. One measure of success will be how they are able to keep others involved and the decisions they make in big games - those were tough spots this last season.
fair enough. i don't expect nor really want Mash to decrease much his shots - in fact if he can improve some more his 3point shot, maybe he should shoot as much or more even. As one former Lobo coach who I don't like to reference for non-b-ball reasons would say - "he's on a shooting scholarship." anyway, from my perspective offense was not a problem for us last year nor was rebounding but defense..................... and that was systemic not just House or Mash.Good post, makes me wished I'd used a better example than EB. Brown was great his sophomore year. But a nightmare his junior year.
I don't think House is coming back to pad his stats, I think he wants to win next year. I expect that for him, with age, comes wisdom. His evolution will mostly be an emotional one, he has the tools but will need to continue to grow in controlling emotions and not letting them control him. Betting his dad and his coach have both talked to him about it and that we will see a still very emotional but more in control House next year. He really will be a legit POY candidate to start the season. I'm excited to see him come back, and I think it will help with our portal recruiting, knowing that he is returning.
Excellent!!! now all we need is to fill the new roster with impact athletes who compete with his passion and defend like House
I believe Lobos have at least two more very good defensive players in Frosh 6-3 Tru Washington and 6-8 Jadyn Toppin! Toppin has that quick twitch that might make him an elite defender at the college level! Very good shot blocker at the HS level!
Truly believe, Lobos would have closed out the season on a better note if House would have been 100% physically. He was not able to play with that elite speed and quickness that separates him from other players!
