How many? Who? What positions? Frosh or transfers? Hoping for some more linemen - both sides of the ball. Go Lobos!
It seems like UNM will sign 6 more players today. Four are freshman who more than likely will be redshirted.. They include Austin Arkel, a LB from New Orleans who also wants to play baseball at UNM and Edward Blacklock, a CB from the Houston area and two recruits from last season who were assigned to be gray shirts (delay enrollment until now and to be part pf the 2023 class) . They are OL Cayden Romero from Rio Rancho and Lane Williams from Oklahoma who might be better off competing at DL rather tan OL.
The one player announced who should help this season is Reese Steele, an HM All American OL from Iowa Central JC. The other spot, my guess is another OL transfer from a JC. This 6 makes a total of 35 recruits in this class which makes the Lobos about 15 over the 85 limit on scholarships, I can discuss this later.
Ikani Tuioni https://twitter.com/DanielTuiono Big Juco OL the other?
these two JC offensive lineman look like solid additions!

So 3 new OL upper class men, lots of bodies in the OL now. And 1 new S recruit from HS who had some p5 offers. Danny looking to turn us into Safety U.
Next question will be who leaves with us being well over on schollies. The un-fun part of the roster shuffle

I am now satisfied with this recent OL infusion. Standing down.

I'm just amazed at how many new SAs we will have - its a whole new era and sure amplifies that much of what I understood about building a program and the timeline necessary is no longer as relevant or accurate. I don't know what this "brave new world" will produce but its sure different (don't know if it will be for the better or not - only time will tell).
As another poster has pointed out, with all these new SAs, we are definitely over the "limit" for next year so what is going to happen? After spring ball will even more of our previous roster young men be told, "No schollie for you next year"? Is now spring ball basically a "tryout" with only the existing scholarship players' at risk or do we add the recent transfers as "at risk" for a scholarship for next fall? If any body has any insight it would be interesting to hear.
Does anybody know about the young man from Louisiana?
Holy bleep where are all these scholarships coming from?? Lobo Football is up to the number signed by CSU but half of Rams roster was in the portal.

They're coming from the magic multiplying machine that your alts all come from, obviously.
That would be an incorrect statement https://www.tigernet.com/clemson-football/story/swinney-may-have-to-resort-to-desperate-measures-to-get-to-85-scholarships-21066Remember, if you use a COVID year, it doesn't count against the 85. That said, UNM has to pick up the extra schollies, so more expenses. Probably going to see some more losses.
You're right, the limit is for class sizes, through next season. My bad.
Will admit, very interesting. Transfers from OU, TCU etc.. We should have talent in this program to compete, question is, will we..
Well, we have the opportunity to change every player on offense for the most part. More or less new offensive staff. Something will change. Literally can't be any worse.
continuity matters...a full changeout of a roster does not mean improved results, more likely the opposit or same (as we can't get much worse). Pray.
Reviewing DG’s last presser it appears all of his predictions regarding this last signing period came true except perhaps one - he mentioned a tall (6’4”) LB in the mold of Moon he expected to sign but that didn’t happen. Maybe he flipped to somebody else or didn’t qualify - anybody have any insight? Perhaps a late add after spring ball “‘tryouts.”

Pure guess on my part but Austin Ackel out of Louisiana is a two sport commitment for baseball/football. He fits the description at 6’3” 210 playing linebacker in high school. Not sure why he wouldn’t be a part of the release.

Jacob Godfrey was another commit not listed in the press release. Coming from Alabama, I believe UAB offered him as well. Likely a Bryant carry-over.

Yeah we know. You want UNM to drop football and move to the WAC in basketball. Troll!
Where's the lie?:
New Mexico has fielded a football team since 1892 and:
Never been ranked in the AP Top25.
An all-time losing record: .412 (407-562-17)
Never had Top 25-or Top 50- or Top 75 recruiting class.
New Mexico football has a losing record against every Mountain West opponent.
From 1931-1996 (65 years) New Mexico went to 4 bowl games.
No football conference title in over 50 years - and only 4 total.
New Mexico football during Rocky Long years as head coach (1998-2008):
Rocky Long had a losing record 65-69 as head coach of New Mexico football.
Rocky Long took New Mexico to 5 low tier bowls (Las Vegas, Emerald, New Mexico) and won 1 bowl game.
Rocky Long was 1-8 against Top25 opponents.
The average "attendance" the past five years (not including Covid year) is 14,000 - and that is clearly not butts in seats which is probably closer to 5,000.
The NCAA requires an attendance of 15,000 to maintain FBS status.
New Mexico football is #130 out of 131

Aggie troll!!! Lots of time on your hands huh? LOL!
What sport and team has drawn the largest crowds in New Mexico history? Isotopes - no; the United - no; Lobo basketball at a sold out Pit even when it held 18K+ - no; Aggie football - not even close: Aggie basketball @ Pam’s can - no. The answer is Lobo football at University Stadium, the Den! The next time a record is set it will the same team at the same place.
No one in the state of New Mexico cares about college football.
UNM football has sold out FIVE times in the past 30+ years. Five. Most schools sellout more than that in one season and have 50% more capacity.
