Yikes! Anybody know if it's a family emergency issue, team rules violation, or simply Bradbury's attempt to play his bench (not by choice so far this season)?
Huh!
Was a reason provided as to why? Just curious...
I have not seen any elaboration--and do not expect to. But it was stated it was the players' decision.

Complete speculation on my part: with school out, and with the family issues back home, they may have decided they want to get back to family. They are competitors and basketball junkies. Whether the plan was to play the bench or not, it looks like it will be the reality.

Why do you make that assumption? It certainly would not be my first though. They had some very emotional losses in the family--and were not able to be back home as long as most would want to be. The facial and body language when they returned made it clear they would rather have stayed longer. To go back and be with family now seems a very reasonably thought, rather than "something rotten". Have you seen indications? I have not.
Seems a contradiction that they are "competitors and basketball junkies" yet decide not to play in what could be their final game. If it were family issues, I am guessing they would have stated as much. IMO, it is disrespectful to the team and tells me there is something else going on with these ladies. We will still be there tonight, but it will be a whole different ballgame.

Why bail out on your teammates now, or is it a simple matter of timing, as UNM is on Spring Break this week? Maybe the loss to SDSU in the MWC Tournament (when it wasn't one of the Duffs taking the last shot) had something to do with their decision to end their UNM BB career early.

I have no information one way or the other. If they had called time out to set up a play, I might buy that more. But with 10 seconds left the "plan" is usually to spring down court and try to attack before the SDSU defense is back--not to call the TO and let them set their D.
The last 30 second drills have usually focused on Tora bringing the ball down, driving to the hoop if she can, and if not looking for one of the speedsters who has a lane to drive. Shai being first choice, but after that whoever has the best line to attack. They found a player within a couple feet of the basket, so essentially they got the shot they wanted.

I don't know it's "contradiction" as much as competing important things--basketball and family. For the last three seasons they have been away for almost all of it, and their family has not been able to come to ABQ as much as most families have. THey could not make it even for last season's Sr day when the twins didn't know if they would be back.
If it was to be with family and finally get to grieve and remember with them, I am not going to bash either decision they would make. I was not able to get to my mom's funeral because it was in the peak of COVID and that part of NYC was completely out of control with illnesses and deaths. I couldn't see her in the nursing home when she was on hospice and the NH was locked down; I couldn't go to the funeral because there were no services or burials allowing people. I know how I felt. I am not going to tell them how to react to what happened in their family--I don't know the situation or feelings.

Agreed, I think most would understand.
It tells you it's likely something else?
Someone console String...

The game they missed was back on Nov 22 against Western. We then went on a road trip, so if they needed more time to grieve and be with family, they would/could have taken it back then? The next game was at Texas A & M Commerce over the Thanksgiving weekend so no school anyway and the next game at Nicholls, so they could have missed that one as well.
I assume this means if we win, they will be out for the next one as well and however long we keep on winning?
Yep, seems like something going on behind the scenes we are not made aware of and may not ever be made aware of?
Well, we should see Jae, Kath and Hulda in this one and any future games.
I would assume that Jae and Aniyah will be the replacement starters for the Duffs tonight. That said, when one of these two guards need a rest, do we go with Paula as a 2 guard and Amaya as point guard? Do we go with the dreaded 5 out offense which doesn't need more than 1 guard? This will be interesting on several levels. Does the team play "for the Duffs" and be inspired to get them one more game next week? Will Bradbury fire them up, or be just be more animated on the sideline to keep the team fired up? I'll be there to find out. Hope you will be too!
We'll be there.
No idea what players will be in. Nine eligible. I am guessing the other guard will be Jae or Nia, but we will see.

I am very sorry to hear about your experience surrounding your mother's death. It would have left a hole in my heart had I not been able to see my mother during her last days and celebrate her life afterward. Unfortunately, COVID made it more common than not for families to be separated during those times.
I do understand about family and that family should always come first. But, what I do not understand, and may never understand, is why the decision was made (or announced) today versus the day after we lost in the MWC tourney. Everyone knew at that time that we would be playing in an NIT game and if the twins were needing to go home or be home during spring break, then announcing it then would have been better. If something else happened with their family that they now need to go home, I get that. It just seems to me that this would be articulated. As it is, it leaves everything up to speculation and we all know how very bad it can be when we all speculate on these boards.
Again, we will be there tonight and cheer on this team. They still have some good talent and we will be glad to see more of the bench tonight.
Wow, this is after the Lady Lobos mysteriously forfeited their 2nd game in 2021. At some point WNIT has to say no thanks, right?? Or will a good gate tonight make up for all the drama?
If this is a situation like Linder then you can completely understand them missing the game. But otherwise with 6 weeks of classes left, I don't see how they are gonna hang with the family unless they are dropping outta screwol too.Something's rotten...I have not seen any elaboration--and do not expect to. They decided. So many reasons come to mind, but I won't speculate on the mind of a young (or any age)woman. They gave me so many good moments, I'm giving them a bye, trusting they took it all into consideration and this was right for them. If you feel betrayed, don't forget they gave you another year. Leave it at that.
This is mind boggling to me. I don't understand, but I obviously don't know the reasons. I just believe that the team should take precedence over the individual, not the other way around. Perhaps there is a very valid reason, but on the surface, it seems like not a good "team" kind of move.
I had to double check my calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1st. 😉
They are getting roasted on twitter...
My wife and I are going tonight. We'll root for those who are there and wish well for those who are done and moving on in life. They are our Lobos, after all, and I for one appreciate them coming to play for NM. Having lost my dad six years ago, I know how hard it is to lose a close loved one, and I understand.
This is as mysterious as the 5 freshmen, that all quit on Flan at once, supposedly without collusion. I still find it hard to believe that as one left her exit interview, the others sitting outside were like.... ooh no, not you too!!
I have gone through the stages of denial, sadness and acceptance upon hearing the news that the Duffs are not playing (likely at home with family for what must be good intentions). Let's go see the Lady Lobos who take the court this evening and cheer them on, win or lose. They can't do worse than the men did last night (with a full roster available). No disrespect intended. Go Lobos!

That was brutal, but a tale of 2 teams. The men got 27 points and 27 rebounds from their starting front court, which I'm sure the Lady Lobos, or most teams, would take in a heartbeat. However, their starting back-court shot 7-30 and that was pretty much the ballgame.
Lobodawg92: "Yep, the boys were a lot like Bradbury's teams, if they can't score, they are going down."
At times the Lady Lobos have played well defensively, except when up against a dominant post player when the offense needed to function smoothly and outside shots needed to fall. The Lady Lobos failed to score 60 points in a game this season only once, against Mississippi State on 12/21 when they had 58 points. There have been seasons with worse offensive stats.
I have not seen any elaboration--and do not expect to. But it was stated it was the players' decision.
Personally, I hate to see this. Not fair to their teammates or the fans.

Mash 1-14, the one was with a fortunate bounce. Not a good way to finish the season. Many months to think about that one.
My son is in a little bit of a hitting slump - so, unfortunately I get it.
