The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team is hosting the San Diego State Aztecs for a Tuesday night matchup.

The Lobos are currently  9-12 overall and 3-6 in the Mountain West conference. They will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak. Meanwhile, The Aztecs are on a three-game winning streak and hold a 13-8 overall record and 5-3 in the conference.

When the teams met in California on Jan. 15, San Diego State took a 20-point win at 97-77. The Lobos competed in the first half, but the second turned into a blowout.

Turnovers and defending the three-point line are issues that have showed up a couple of times for New Mexico. This was game saw exactly that. New Mexico had 17 turnovers and allowed San Diego State to make 10 out of their 23 attempts from beyond the arc.

“We have to bounce back not only from that, but our past game and come up with a much better effort in order to give ourselves a chance to win. They are very talented, I think everybody knows that,” said New Mexico head coach Paul Weir.

The Lobos’ latest result was an 82-70 road loss to the Fresno State Bulldogs. The Aztecs have won four of their last games, their lone loss was a 66-62 loss to the Bulldogs.

Redshirt sophomore Jalen McDaniels leads SDSU in scoring by averaging 16.8 points per game (20 points per game in conference play). Weir said the forward was a terrific player and that all the hype around him seemed to be true. New Mexico is led by senior Anthony Mathis’ 15.7 points per game ( 16.1 points per game in conference play).
